Introducing: 'The Conversation'
After FIVE years of daily live streaming the Good Morning Portugal! Show, it's time for a change...
It's time to shift the focus from one-to-many to one-to-one, or at least a smaller, select community - those who have brought the project this far with me, and are wondering "what's next?".
I think it's fair to say that I have inspired hundreds, if not thousands, to consider a move to Portugal, and for some, I have been an integral part in realising their dream life here. It remains my joy and delight to share my passion for Portugal, and now in a different way - supporting those who have made the move with the rest of their life as a Portuguese resident.
Compared to the mechanics of moving here, the 'resources for the rest of your life in Portugal' are a different animal, a longer and less obvious process, with more nuance and some aspects that people are unaware of and/or don't generally like to talk about. From my experience of working with so many foreigners here, and seeing what works (and doesn't), I can tell you that, as well as the obvious 'ups', there are 'downs' too, which if left unattended, can become toxic and devastating to our Portuguese plans and dreams.
These might be prosaic matters of administration, finance and lifestyle, but they might also be around health, ageing and the end or our lives in a strange land. I suggest all of these, and other considerations, are best addressed and discussed, in a purposeful and strategic manner.
With the right mix of seriousness, courage, practicality and humour, these 'tripping hazards' can be seen and prepared for, and not become the undoing of our hoped-for destiny. Taking about difficult things does not make them happen. But not talking about them, can make them much worse, when or should they happen.
All this said, the conversation about the rest of our lives in Portugal needn't be seen as all gloom, doom and negativity. I came here to live my life to the fullest, didn't you? So let's talk about our dreams too and all the wonderful things we want to experience, enjoy and remember!
On a practical level, the conversation, is an informal chat that can take place by phone, over the internet, in person, over lunch or on a walk together in Sao Martinho Do Porto. It will also become a self-service 'course' on our members-only platform, The Portugal Club .
So if you're ready, I am too, for 'the conversation'...
